The "Science Cafe" meetings organized by the Burdur MAKÜ Science Communication Coordination were held with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Yaşar Gök on the topic of "Light and Nanotechnology in Sustainable Development". The event highlighted May 16th, World Light Day, and discussed the method of "photocatalysis" that arises from the interaction of light and nanotechnology at the nano scale. The critical role of this innovative technology in solving environmental issues, particularly in water purification and the production of valuable chemicals through economical, eco-friendly methods, was emphasized. The program concluded with a Q&A session where participants' questions were answered.

On May 20, 2026, a program titled “Light and Nanotechnology in Sustainable Development” was organized as part of the Science Cafe meetings by the Science Communication Coordination of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. In the discussion led by Prof. Dr. Yaşar GÖK, a faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the event referenced May 16th, World Light Day, and discussed how materials at the nano scale (one billionth of a meter) interact extraordinarily with light, as well as the photocatalysis method, which is one of the application areas that emerges as a result. Important information was shared regarding how sustainable development can be achieved in environmental issues, particularly in water purification and the economical and environmentally sensitive production of valuable chemicals. The program concluded with a Q&A session.
