The program “Future Professions: Medical Data Processing” was organized on 25.06.2026 as part of the Science Cafe Meetings by the Science Communication Coordination of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.
The program, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Funda UYSAL, included speakers such as Lecturer Ekrem MERT and Lecturer Ünal ARSLAN from the Medical Data Processing Technician Program of Burdur Health Services Vocational School as academics, Regaip Sinan BALKAN as a representative from the Burdur Provincial Health Directorate Hospital Information Management System (HBYS) Unit, and Rabia AKÇAY as a student of the Medical Data Processing Technician Program.
During the event, topics discussed included the objectives of the Medical Data Processing program, its differences from classical medical documentation, the new vision in higher education, the importance of security and processing of health data operationally, the practical competencies students gained while blending hospital automation, data analysis, and medical terminology during their education, the critical characteristics a new graduate technician should possess when managing complex data crises in the field of HBYS units, and how students should prepare themselves for the future in an era where medical data processing merges with AI-supported diagnostic systems.
